Charity means love, and love always desires ways of expression. Regarding sending love to Haiti, why not first check out Charity Navigator (CN) for a full list of Haiti helping groups? The home page says, "Find A Charity You Can Trust" and features giving to Haiti now. CN gives specifics about how different groups handle their resources. Also, sometimes the larger groups are better prepared to deal with major crisis like the one in Haiti now. This only takes a few minutes, so you can give today if you have not already helped relieve some of the urgent, survival needs in Haiti now.

Miami's Mayor Tomas P. Regalado said on MSNBC today (January 22) that Miami has a Haitian population already, which he said is called, appropriately, Little Haiti. He answered questions about what is best for Haitian orphans and young children who survived. Many were already awaiting adoption and others do not yet know whether or not their parents survived.

In every crisis the matter of donations becomes a concern. There was an issue with the American Red Cross years ago, after 9/11, about how funds were used or put in reserve for other projects. That moved small and large helping organizations to assure donors that project-direct donations would be used for specified needs and programs.

Giving five or 10 dollars is not too little. And if more and more people give in an on-going way, little becomes a lot. Key questions are "How and where are the dollars being used to the best advantage directly to people that need help? How do I know?"

It would be too much to expect that donation recipient organizations or recipients of help individually would be able to communicate with thousands of donors. Let's hope there will be millions of donors!

It is possible to keep due diligence in place and on-going for ourselves through Charity Navigator and other profit groups that track charitable giving. Let's remember orphans, children left alone until they know where their parents are, and also firefighters, medical, transportation, and supply personnel, including our own military and many people from around the world who quickly responded.

God loves the cheerful giver. What can make your day or mine more than knowing somehow we helped the littlest to the oldest in need, as well as people on the scene helping them in extremely hard and sorrowful circumstances?

Hi Jean,

I agree 100%! Even a dollar from some can add up quite a bit. I would also hope that those with the mentality of a little too late does not stop them from giving what they can.

Love, hugs and blessings,
