A frequent visitor to our house saw the differences in our meeting space. "Wow. What's going on here?" she said, looking toward stacks of dishes on the dining table and a dissembled china cabinet: "Look at the ceiling line.

It's unbalanced," I said. "Since the fireplace was inserted in that corner, I' ve wanted to add built-in storage to the other one."

"Are you aiming for symmetry?" she asked. I nodded.
"Do you aim for symmetry?" I wondered. She shook her head No.

"I used not to care about symmetry either. And you could change, too. You might start to look for symmetry."

We are fortunate that we can be changing people. Experience, necessities, and maturing years can be instigators of change in us. I have changed most of all inside over the years. And I've changed some ideas about judging what others do or do not do in decorating at Christmas. People that have not understood friends and family sending updates at Christmas can change, looking forward to them. I miss my sister-in-law's updates at Christmas, even as I miss her presence on this earth all the time. She was almost as heavenly on earth as she now is...in Heaven.

Many have foregone sending Christmas cards even though they still honor what Christmas means to this fallen world. As for me, I just got so busy and overwhelmed at times living far from home that I stopped sending them, for the most part.

Are you still changing? Some changes come as "changing back." When we "change back" to earlier practices or beliefs, we never do it as the same person, however.

Once blind, as the song says it, I now see. And I see how far off I am from the Almighty's perfection and beauty. That does not make me hide from Him. It causes me to want to draw closer to the Almighty God, full of sovereignty, omnipotence, and omniscience. He dearly loves sinners. He dearly loves every person in this world, and went to great costs to prove that.

That Babe, the Holy Child, transformed history forever at a great price. And God sent many pre-Christmas messages through the prophets of old. He sent them first to Israel long before the Infant Jesus' birth into a humble Jewish setting when His birth was announced to shepherds. Alleluia!

God's pre-Christmas messages came by way of Moses, David, Jeremiah, Isaiah, and the other prophets. They said there would come a Branch from the root of Jesse, David's ancestor. They said there was coming One who would put Satan under His feet. They said His appearance would be scorned by many and refused, yet that He would be King forever. It is impossible to list here the long list of references to Jesus, who was at the beginning, "when everything that was made was made."

Forget Christmas cards? I intend to send them and treasure every one that arrives. And most of all I want to remember those most important Christmas words, sent of God to prepare our hearts for the coming Messiah to earth.

"Come, Thou long-awaited Jesus." God has sent to us a post-Christmas message: This Jesus who ascended into the heavens after God raised Him from the dead will come again. As the apostle John wrote at the end of his prophetic Revelation, "Even so, Lord Jesus, come quickly."

Here is my Christmas card message: "Jesus will return to this earth. Jesus is alive in the heavens and by the word of God and the Holy Spirit He speaks today. He is going to return, and in glory. Every knee shall bow and every tongue and language shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord."

This is joyous and solemn news at the same time. He said, "Watch and pray." Joyous Christ-mas! Joyous in Christ, the Lord! Joy to the world!
