Time of Decision about Trusting God

Since November 4, 1980 I have been sure that Jesus Christ is the Son of God alive and real. I realized too that this certainty included a sincere and complete commitment to God, from me. This had been building slowly, with many setbacks, for over two years.

On that day I stood on a corner in Washington, D. C., within sight of the White House. I had been in turmoil about faith and full commitment. I had gone back and forth about getting serious with God unless I was in dire need of His help due to mounting problems.

I waited for a traffic light to change. I still wonder if it changed a few times before I moved, for my thoughts were elsewhere, rooted in the confrontation with a decision. The time comes when we cannot delay, we must decide, and I knew that time had come. It had come because I was about to make an earthbound decision about my marriage that would change my life, future, and sense of having done the right thing.

I was on my way to a nearby building for a French lesson. My husband and I were about to reconcile after 27 months of complete separation. I was very afraid.

This is exactly how God challenges and calls to many of us. He tugs at our thoughts at a momentous time. He wants us to make a decision of trust. He often confronts us about this while we are waiting for something--a light to change, a sandwich to be made, a parking attendant to arrive.

God wants to help every person. He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to show this. Not to demonstrate it now by fancy words or fireworks or visions, but by a cruel and shameful Cross. On that Cross Christ suffered to show the love of God. He did it willingly, knowingly, and--the Bible says--"for the joy that was set before Him." He knew that He would bring multitudes of heirs into the Kingdom of God by His blood sacrifice on that Cross, a sacrifice to pay for the Sin of the world.

Have you accepted this great Gift? Are you sharing the good news by how you speak and live and react? God loves you with an everlasting, sacrificial, immortal, and intense love, beyond all other loves. If you and I know this, are we sharing it? Praise God, we can and do! If you do not know this yet, will you say, "God, show me if You are real?" If you pray that sincerely, He will show you and in the loving way of Christ, His Son. Are you excited about this wonderful Savior and what He has done for you?

Dear Jean,

Thank you for sharing this with others. We become a credible witness to the goodness of God when we share our personal experiences as you have so often. Thank you for presenting our God for who He truly is, a God of love. It seems over the past two years, I've been at turning points in whether I'm to trust God or not. I seem to do so on the little things but they are not 'sized' in His sight. Trust is simply required.

Thank you for giving me the courage needed today and always. You are dearly beloved.

In Christ,
Avis
