Where Shall We Go but to the Lord?

You may have recently had close times with God. You were aware of His help and encouragement in profound reassurances. Certain Scriptures spoke to you so directly at the time. You took and ate them and they fed your love of the Lord.

You read again John 17, where Jesus near the hour of His arrest prayed not only for His mission and for the disciples with Him and in the regions beyond, where He had walked and talked.

He prayed beyond that place. He prayed beyond that time. He who with the Father can see into the future prayed for you and for all believers on His Name who were yet to come.

You prayed to Him again, for the help and the salvation of many.

"Lord, Be Thou the Center of all I desire, think, and do."

You prayed about recently opened doors, some you never expected.

You prayed Isaiah 41:10: "I will not fear, for Thou art with me; I will not be dismayed, for Thou art my God: Thou wilt strengthen me; yea, Thou wilt help me; yea, Thou wilt uphold me with Thy righteous right hand. Amen."

You prayed for family and for other writers.

A month later you wrote a note to God:

"Dear Lord, since the previous enthusiastic days, I have been through numerous and heavy days and nights of inner dullness, doubts, and torments, and with extreme tiredness.... Revive me, O Lord! Revive me in Thee, I pray."

"Trust in the Lord, and do good...," you read in Psalm 37:3.

More days went by. Whatever you were doing, you prayed, "Lord, I need your help," and "Lord, help me." You prayed that way while working, while cleaning and folding laundry. You prayed that while driving and visiting.

You kept leaving your request there, for what else could you do? Where else could you go? "Lord," one disciple said to Jesus, "to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life" (John 6: 68).

And so he rightly said. He who is called Faithful helps us. We know when He begins His work of refreshing in us. We want to linger there and let Him help us thoroughly. We desire to be saturated by His grace and our awareness of it anew!

We will do anything, forgo any selfish thing to center our thoughts on Him and once again wait upon Him in the rush and in the calm.
